Taking the mystery out of the LEADER Programme
LEADER grants, LEADER funding, LEADER support – you may have heard these terms before, but what is it all about? Here are the facts:
LEADER is judged to be one of the most successful initiatives ever to come from Europe. It’s a regeneration initiative that has, in the main, worked! This European Union and Irish Government Funded programme focuses on the development of rural areas economically, socially and culturally. Meath Partnership is responsible for the delivery of the LEADER Programme in County Meath and has over €10 million in funding to deploy between now and 2014.
LEADER is a community-based approach that allows local communities to identify their own needs and devise appropriate solutions. It is important that projects supported through the LEADER programme produce sustainable impacts that continue after the funding has comes to an end. A great many Meath residents will have felt the benefits of LEADER in terms of jobs created in new enterprises, enhanced community buildings and support for essential services. It has shown the benefits that a bottom-up approach to rural development can bring with relatively little resource.
LEADER funding is provided under a wide range of categories. Click on the links below to find out more.
