Historic Country Homes and Gardens of Meath

As a county, Meath is rich in built heritage.  From the great Georgian buildings of the 18th century to the Palladian mansions and vernacular stone-built cottages, these unique properties reflect the skills of the craftsmen who built them and the passion of the keepers who maintained them.

Constructed by Irish builders, these properties are now increasingly valued for their architectural significance and for the wealth of superb interior decoration.  However the financial burden of the day-to-day maintenance, conservation and restoration of historic houses is now a major challenge.  Many houses require complex and extensive restoration or conservation work.

The future of Meath's historic homes is by no means secure.  It is important that urgent actions are taken to prevent these historic homes and gardens being lost forever.

In response to this we have appointed Tourism Development International and PK Architects to work with the owners of country homes to create a vision for their property's preservation and development in order to boost rural tourism and showcase the stories and histories attached to these great homes.

For more information you are invited to attend an Information Workshop on Wednesday 28th March at 3pm in Headfort House, Kells, Co. Meath
