County Meath is famous throughout the world because of sites like Newgrange and the Hill of Tara but there are many other equally fascinating but little known archaeological and historical sites in Meath.
Meath partnership is seeking expressions of interest from community groups in County Meath who wish to develop projects that will upgrade and provide access to these antiquities and historic attractions so that tourists and locals can appreciate and enjoy them. Many types of projects involving Meath’s built heritage can be funded from the large budget allocated to Meath Partnership for this purpose.
The successful groups will receive support to develop their project from a consultant archaeologist. Workshops will be designed to provide these groups with the skills and information that they will need to successfully complete their project. A LEADER project officer will also be available to assist with the development of their project and their application for LEADER funding.
Meath Partnership will hold an information evening at the Ardboyne Hotel, Navan on 17 April 2012 at 7 pm. This event will provide presentations on the type of project that could be funded by Meath Partnership as well as plenty of opportunity for questions. It will also launch an up-to-date report on the antiquities of county Meath.
Interested groups must complete an EOI application form
Signed forms must be returned to Meath Partnership by 27 April 2012. Late applications will not be accepted.
Meath’s Local Antiquities Shine Through
Our heritage is inextricably linked to our identity as people, communities and as a nation and although dynamic and constantly evolving, it is a non-renewable asset and resource that requires careful and informed management. Heritage plays an essential role in maintaining a high quality of life and is the basis of our tourism industry.
Last year Meath Partnership commissioned a report by Dr Linda Shine to assess the nature of these sites and their potential development as local amenities and tourist attractions.
This Antiquities Report, which will be launched on
17th April in the Ardboyne Hotel, Navan, identified clusters of archaeological and historical sites that could be developed with LEADER support in partnership with local communities.
